How to Find Flicker Free LED Christmas Lights
*1 min read*
Like many I am a bit sensitive to the 30hz flicker of cheap LED Christmas light strings. I've even tried the commercial "low flicker" sets, and they are better, but still have flicker that makes my eyes sore after some time.
What I have found is that the "low voltage" sets, for example 20 or 30v sets, usually have decent DC power supplies with smoothing that do not flicker.
Here is the set I bought 5 strings of this year that I like.
The set above worked well for me, and they look pretty decent. I considered Tru Tone bulbs, but they are not flicker free as clarified by their own marketing. The durability of this set isn't the best, but I expect they will last 3-5 seasons just fine. I've strung them from the house to a tree nearby and no concerns they'll break or anything.
Good luck shopping this year, and hopefully we can reduce the amount of flickery houses during Christmas! :)
